The news took me by surprise as Gang Starr was one of my introduction to Hip Hop along with groups like A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Jungle Brothers, Marley Marl, etc... the golden age of Hip Hop. Nothing has been the same ever since that exciting time and no one has been able to compete with the King of Monotone in his game.
Together with DJ Premier, they have created classic upon classics and helped defined an era in hip hop that is dear to me. No, I am not even gonna comment on the "letter" that is floating around. This is indeed a big lost to Hip Hop and music in general.
I would like to end this with one of Gang Starr's most meaningful songs... at least to me. Guru's lyrics in this song has kept me going and not to give up at trying times.
