Hot Peas & Butta

Over the decades, only a handful of music genres have survived the exodus brought upon by the ever-changing tastes of the generation. Many came and go like the wind but only a few would go on to influence the whole world.

Ask any artiste or musician about their musical influences and chances are funk would be on their list. Funk is nourishment for the soul and its highly infectious grooves makes you wanna dance. Funk has the power to warm you up and make you feel all fuzzy inside. Most importantly, funk never dies and in fact, the funk movement is still going strong.

Hot Peas & Butta captures all that is essentially funk and in the words of the artistes, "Hot Peas & Butta is a 'feel good' party". It all began in Philadelphia, where DJs Skeme Richards and Cash Money were dropping beats (45s only!) and rocking the parties. Just this year, DJ Amir joined the Hot Peas & Butta lineup and together with DJ Skeme Richards, they have been travelling and dishing out even more beats and tunes to a music-starved population.

The album, 'Skeme Richards Presents: Hot Peas & Butta Band, The Smokeout EP', is the brainchild and collaborative effort of Skeme Richards and funk band, Big Pimp Jones. In a nutshell, "Hot Peas & Butta Band is a mix of Skeme's dusty 45s, a collection of legendary blaxploitation flicks, a packed dancefloor and the musical stylings of a funky band from Philly called Big Pimp Jones".

I have been pretty excited about this album ever since I got to know about it. This is definitely on my to-get list and yeah, the wait is almost over because this album's gonna hit the stores next week, on 27 July 2010. Great funk music on a 7" and an awesome classic looking cover, what more can a man ask for?

Here's a short promo video for the album.
