Not A Good Start

2010 has not exactly been a good year so far.

On 12 January 2010, Tuesday, the capital of Haiti, Port-Au-Prince, was hit by a catastrophic earthquake of magnitude 7.3. To date, there is an estimated 50,000 casualties and about 3 million people affected by the earthquake. International aid from all over the world has been rendered as soon as it happened. Many organisations, profitable and non-profitable, have chipped in to do their part as well. As individuals, we may do our part as well, be it donations of money or supplies. So if you wish to help our brothers and sisters of Haiti, do approach your local Red Cross movement or any other organisations that are involved in the Haiti relief efforts.

My heartfelt condolences to the victims of the earthquake.

Another unfortunate incident, which I got to know about just today, is the passing of R&B/Soul singer, Teddy Pendergrass. Teddy Pendergrass rose to fame in the 70s as the lead singer of the group, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes. An accident in 1982, left him paralysed from the waist down. He is best known for his hits like "If You Don't Know Me By Now" and "Wake Up Everybody" when he was the lead singer of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes. On his own, he had several hits such as "Close The Door" and "Turn Off The Lights". His music has also been sampled by Hip-Hop acts such as Ghostface Killah, 9th Wonder, DMX and many more.

Teddy Pendergrass lost the battle against colon cancer at the age of 59. RIP.

Hopefully, 2010 would be a much better year than the last. Fingers crossed.
