The Kilimanjaro Dark Jazz Ensemble (TKDE) started as an audiovisual project in 2000 by Jason Köhnen (aka Bong-Ra) and Gideon Kiers; composing soundtracks to old silent movies like Nosferatu, Metropolis, etc. Eventually, their visual inspired music became materials for TKDE. They became a sextet when Hilary Jeffery, Nina Hitz, Eelco Bosman, Charlotte Cegarra and Sarah Anderson joined.
