Radiohead has just digitally released their new album, The King Of Limbs. The album is touted as "the world's first Newspaper Album", as the physical copy of the album, comprises of "two clear 10" vinyl records in a purpose-built record sleeve", a CD and "many large sheets of newspaper artwork, 625 tiny pieces of artwork and a full-colour piece of oxo-degradable plastic to hold it all together". This concept was probably borne of Radiohead's pro-environment stance and give their fans, and would be fans, a breath of fresh air.
Radiohead - Lotus Flower
So far, I have checked out one of the new tracks, 'Lotus Flower' and all that needs to be said is that, Radiohead has found the perfect technique in combining music and visuals. On 'Lotus Flower', Thom Yorke's cryptic melancholic drawn-back falsettos backed by seemingly mellow yet tense instrumentals, stirs an ambivalent darkness within you: Love, loathing, despair and hope. The music video for 'Lotus Flower' is reminiscent of Radiohead's music, minimalistic but effective. This pure concoction of music and video stimulates the aural-visual senses and is an experience that leaves you wanting for more.
That being said, I never thought that anyone could, and would, come anywhere close to dancing like Ian Curtis, but Thom Yorke has done it once again (extremely well, I must say). It ain't easy to dance like that and still make it look so damn awkwardly cool. The expression through physical movements and facial expressions truly accentuates the feel of the music. Impressive. = )
If you would like to purchase the digital copy of the version or the physical album, you may do so here, The King Of Limbs. Please do note that the physical album would only ship starting from 9th May 2011. Enjoy! = )
