Cola Bottle Baby

Well, here's another 'Who Sampled What' trivia a.k.a. 'Ahhh, Now You Know!'. = )

I am sure most of you out there would be pretty damn familiar with the tracks 'Stronger' by Kanye West and 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' by Daft Punk, and I believe I can safely say, most of the population who are exposed to only the stuff they play on commercial radio or television, would probably think that Daft Punk came up with the original track and Kanye West just sampled it. Or so you think.

Daft Punk actually sampled the track from Edwin Birdsong's 'Cola Bottle Baby', which was produced in 1979. Edwin Birdsong was a keyboardist who was known for his experimental music, mainly Funk and Soul. Even though Edwin Birdsong did not achieve commercial success, his music were sampled by many other artistes after him, which include Daft Punk and Gangstarr.

So, if someone tries to 'educate' you by claiming that Kanye West sampled Daft Punk's 'original' track, you can turn the tables and 'reverse educate' them. You may choose to end the discussion, 'to gain some street cred' or 'to impress some girl', with: "Ahhhh, now you know!", cos Ahhh, now you really do know!. = )
