Ayaschool

Well, if you haven't heard, Koflow's new album's launch is happening this Friday.

It is gonna be great but yeah, we just gotta give props to the talented people who have collaborated or will be collaborating 'live' on the launch day itself. These collaborations contribute to the creation of the great vibes on the album and the performance as well.

Every week, Aya Sekine, jazz experimental keyboardist & principle of Ayaschool, handpicks a line-up of sessionists for a freestyle 'live' jam session at BluJaz. As Aya best puts it:

AYASCHOOL is a school but not an institution and there's no building nor campus! Wherever I am there is AYASCHOOL of music that is:

-always live
-always different
-always exciting
-always full of mistakes

Well, she is spot on about that. I have been to a couple of their sessions and my oh my, I always get the 12/8 jazz groove-swing dropped on me every single time.

Without a doubt, the music is great, however there is always something more to it, something special. The vibe and energy of watching them perform is extremely intense and infectious. The expressions and micro-expressions of a musician encapsulates the passion, heart, spirit and joy of the creation of music.

Every jazz groove, like a crotchet-quaver-dotted crotchet-dotted quaver-semiquaver-quaver-dotted crotchet combination, or the walking rhythm of the bass, produces a groove that is accentuated by the natural rhythmic movement of the body, followed by a big smile, every time the note hits the beat. It is a heartening and humbling experience each time I see a live jazz act.

Simply put, as an audience, you do not need to know jazz to feel the groove. All you have to do is to open your ears and your mind and let the music take control.

If you wish to catch Ayaschool on one of their BluJaz nights, please do join and check out their Facebook page, Ayaschool, for the latest dates and line-ups.

So yeah, enough of the talk and all, here are a couple of videos of Ayaschool on one of their BluJaz nights. Enjoy. = )
