Mr Policeman

So, we went digging at a new found spot on Sunday and yeah, it was no surprise that we behaved like kids in a candy store. We made a couple of good 7" and 12" purchases and I was surprisingly happy with one of my buys. I bought Rick James' "Street Songs" album.

You see, I was never a huge fan of Rick James, or rather, back then, I did not know how to appreciate it when I first heard his stuff. Yes, the album had two of his most commonly heard tracks, 'Give It To Me Baby' and 'Super Freak', but those were not the tracks that caught my attention. It was the track 'Mr Policeman' which made me sat up when I was testing the record. It had a lil bit of Reggae touch mixed with a Funk and Disco flavour. The main thing that got it for me was the lyrics, which is about police brutality. This has to be my favourite Rick James track at the moment.

I would not say that I am a 100% Rick James fan but yeah, I dig a couple of tracks that he has put out. There are still thousands, probably hundreds of thousands, of artistes whose tracks are waiting for me to discover, ah well, we all learn as we go eh. Till then, let's just enjoy this track for now. = )
