Time Zone was a band headed by Afrika Bambaataa, featuring various artistes on different tracks. The track 'World Destruction' was a collaboration between two of the greatest socially-conscious lyricists and a prolific producer renowned for his versatility in numerous music styles. It featured Universal Zulu Nation founder, Afrika Bambaata (Hip Hop), The Sex Pistols' frontman, Johnny Rotten (Punk) and Bill Laswell, who is widely-recognised for his involvement with a wide array of artistes (Iggy Pop, Herbie Hancock, Buckethead) and genres (Dub, Funk, Jazz, Rock). It was indeed, a clash (or rather, collaboration) of the titans.
Although the track was released in 1984, the lyrics are hauntingly true, especially in current times. This goes to show that even after all that evolution and technological advancement, we are essentially not better off, in fact, it seems that we are worse off, as people choose to be the catalyst of their own undoing. How long more before the end eh?
