Lloyd Miller & The Heliocentrics

So yeah, a couple of months ago, I came across an article on the Stones Throw website. It was an e-mail conversation between Dr. Lloyd Miller and Eothen 'Egon' Alapatt from Stones Throw Records. Dr. Lloyd Miller is a composer and as an academic, his research works intensively covers the traditional music of the Middle East.

In a nutshell, Egon had asked Dr. Lloyd Miller for permission to include one of his track in a compilation album which Egon would be releasing on his Now-Again Records label. Egon's request was met with Dr. Miller's vehement disapproval on being associated with the Adversary, which to him is the "obnoxious rock junk and pop of any genre". You can check out the e-mail conversation here.

I just got news today that Lloyd Miller would be releasing an album with The Heliocentrics and it is set for release on 3rd August 2010. Following last year's successful collaboration with the father of Ethio-Jazz, Mulatu Astatke, for the album Inspiration Information (great album, by the way), The Heliocentrics are collaborating with yet another jazz heavyweight. I checked out the preview track and I must say, it is a collaboration which is gonna be sick and definitely, none of that commercial trashy music. So yeah, definitely gotta cop one of this, it's a keeper.

Check out Now-Again Records or Strut Records for more details.
