Tony Allen is the famed drummer for Fela Kuti and a co-founder of Afrobeat. He has recorded over 30 albums with Fela and Africa '70 which are regarded as Fela's best works. He formed his own band after leaving Fela and has developed a hybrid sound he calls Afrofunk by deconstructing and fusing Afrobeat with electronica, dub, R&B, and rap.
The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble is a 9-piece ensemble consisting of brass and drums hailing from Chicago who started as a street ensemble. It features 8 sons of Phil Cohran – known for his trumpet contributions in the Sun Ra Arkestra and creator of the Frankiphone aka the Space Harp.
