Daze

Great news for all graffiti artists and lovers of the art. The legendary graffiti artist, Daze (aka Chris Ellis) will be in town. Daze began his journey as a graffiti artist during the 1970s, in the streets of New York. The usual 'tagging' on walls could not satisfy his creative ambitions, so he decided to turn trains into his canvas. His elaborate paintings on the trains reflected his perspective of New York in the late 1970s. Thus he was considered one of the pioneer 'train-bombers' (the artistic sense and not of the terror kind). Other legendary artists like Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat were considered his fellow 'writers'. A collaboration piece with Jean-Michel Basquiat, resulted in Daze's first sale of his artwork. From then on, Daze has taken his art from the streets of New York, to museums and galleries all over the world.

Daze will be creating another one of his artworks at VivoCity. So be prepared to catch him in action doing what he does best. He will also be involved in a panel discussion, "From the Streets to the Malls: The Cultural Assimilation of Graffiti Art".

Not forgetting the local talents that we have here, the project "Is This Home, Truly?", will be showcasing local graffiti artists and their works. It will be curated by Zaki Razak and features graffiti writers Antz, Slacsatu, Scopeone, The Killer Gerbil, TR853-1 and Zero.
