Banksy, undoubtedly one of the greatest graffiti artist, has brought the love back to his hometown in a collaboration, termed as Banksy's biggest exhibition in the UK, with Bristol's City Museum & Art Gallery. In true Banksy style, the 100 pieces featured were fitted in 2 days under a shroud of secrecy, surprising even museum staff who only got to know about the exhibition, a day before its opening.
Banksy requires little or no introduction for those in the know. His works are often satires of ethics, politics and culture. Although his works are well-known, little is known about his true identity even after all these years. If you wanna check out more about him, Banksy.
The Bansky Versus Bristol Museum exhibition will be on from 13 June 2009 till 31 August 2009 and entrance is free, so if you happen to be around the region, you really should head down and check the exhibition out. For those who have your pockets restricted by the doom and gloom economy, pictures of the exhibition can be found here.
Coincidentally, less than a mile away from the museum, two of Banksy's wall murals, the Naked Man and Mild Mild West, have been defaced with blue paintball pellets.
The decision by the City Council to keep the Naked Man, in 2006, was made after overwhelming public support through voting where 93% of the people voted that it should remain. The Bristol City Council has vowed to remove the blue paint asap.
Bristol, Bristol, Bristol, it is probably one of the most vibrant places in terms of culture, art and music. 'Bristol Sound' probably explains it all with its extensive influence on music worldwide, including us.
The point is, at the end of the day, artists and musicians require a conducive environment to work in and the crowd have to be receptive of the stuff these people put out. Of course, the stuff that is put out by artists and musicians have to be good, if not it would be blasphemy towards their craft. Ultimately, an environment like that ain't gonna be built overnight and neither would it build itself, it is up to the people to create the environment. It is in your hands, do your part.
